    Responsibilities

    Summary Manages all activities related to operations of both a distribution facility and yard operations.  A team builder, who works with and through a team, managing daily activities of the personnel, scheduling, and proper and safe utilization of space and equipment.  Serves as the key interface between office, transportation staff and operations.  Applies continuous improvement methodologies for operational efficiencies and proficiencies while meeting corporate values and objectives.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Report to Senior Director
    • Responsible for yard drivers – scheduling and maintaining support for building
    • Responsible for working with Transportation to schedule shuttle driver requirements
    • Weekend coverage
    • Lead on YMS – YardView for the location
    • Work with Security to maintain YMS accuracy for 3 yards
    • Responsible for 2 overflow yards
    • Manage 1 Manager and YMS clerks to maintain systemic accuracy
    • Ensure there are adequate empty equipment pools
    • Maintain yard cleanliness for 3 yards
    • Plans and manages effective space utilization, meeting cost and service standards. Monitors space to ensure it meets company standards and customer product requirements.  Develop, implement, and maintain product locator system that is effective for both customer and productivity, and updates as needed.
    • Responsible for the operations portion of the transportation business.
      • Maintain fleet operations and budget.
    • Develops and maintains procedures that ensure efficient operation and utilization of all warehouse equipment. Monitors for cleanliness and working conditions of all equipment, and oversees repairs, adjustments and replacements as needed.  Monitors for quantity and type of equipment to meet business needs while minimizing costs.  Develops a maintenance schedule for all equipment.
    • Develops, implements, and directs safety programs for all personnel to meet company standards and federal regulations. Timely reports all incidents/injuries to upper management according to company policy and procedure, filing appropriate reports and seeking medical attention as needed.  Actively promotes safety awareness, ensuring the continued effectiveness of safety programs.  Ensures regular safety inspections are conducted and necessary corrective actions are taken.  Ensures the facility remains in compliance to all city, state and federal regulations.
    • Manages and directs procedures to ensure the security of assets and prevention of damages and loss to inventory. Responsible for cycle counts that will audit inventory accuracy and maintain reports as required.
    • Maintains a professional and courteous relationship with all customers and work teams. Perform operation audits to ensure service standards are consistently met.  Provide training for all personnel, and maintain high profile with customers soliciting feedback.
    • Establishes production and quality control standards, develops budget and cost controls, and obtains data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
    • Ensures all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met.
    • Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
    • Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of shop operations, including compiling, storing, and retrieving production data for reports.
    • Determines responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
    • Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, operational and safety procedures, and regulations.
    • Support sales efforts by providing required operations data and interacting with customers.
    • Attend workshops and seminars as requested and approved. Continuous training (analytical and financial) as backup to Director, assuming lead manager role in Director’s absence. 

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Manage 1 individual + the YMS clerks
    • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation.
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
